Americans are facing a new epidemic — sleep deprivation. A Good Morning America feature pointed out that, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than one in three adults are considered sleep deprived because they do not get the recommended minimum of seven hours of sleep per night.

This is leading to the latest travel trend — sleep tourism.

An article by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the sleep tourism industry is expected to increase by almost $410 billion by 2028. It seems hotels are embracing travelers’ need for rest and relaxation offering rooms featuring custom pillow menus, air purifiers, and light therapy. Others offer wellness programs such as yoga and meditation classes designed to help you relax and unwind.

If you’re looking for a dreamy getaway for your next vacation, you might want to consider one of top five sleep retreats in the United States according to Time Out:

Sensei Lanai, A Four Seasons Resort in Lanai, Hawaii; Mountain Shadows Resort in Paradise Valley, Arizona; Castle Hot Springs in Morristown, Arizona; Smyth Tribeca in New York City; and Carillon Miami Wellness Resort in Miami, Florida.
