People who travel internationally often herald the Global Entry system as a way to speed up customs clearance, but it comes with a hefty price tag. According to The Points Guy, with the Mobile Passport Control app you can typically breeze through customs and save yourself $100.
Mobile Passport Control is a free U.S. Customs and Border Protection app that lets you take care of most of the international arrivals process on your smartphone or other mobile device. After submitting your travel document, photo, and customs declaration information, you can skip the long line at passport control and head to a separate — usually far shorter — lane.
Mobile Passport Control is currently available at 51 sites, including 33 U.S. International Airports, 14 Preclearance locations, and 4 seaports of entry.
Another perk is that Mobile Passport Control is not just for U.S. citizens. Lawful permanent residents, Canadian B1/B2 travelers, and travelers from 41 ‘visa waiver’ countries (including Australia, Belgium, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom) can also use the app when entering the United States.
As convenient as this service is, CBP agents say it is not widely used. The article even called it a “well-kept secret in the eyes of the government.”
