After the post-pandemic surge of revenge travel, people’s preferences are changing. As CNBC Travel reports, trend reports from two travel industry leaders show that “vacationers are forgoing splashy trips to global hot spots in favor of quieter trips to places that are lesser-known — and far less crowded.”
According to Expedia’s “Unpack ‘25,” 63 percent of travelers said their next trip will likely be to an off-the-beaten-track destination. Today’s travelers are looking for destinations that haven’t been discovered by many people yet. Lesser-known spots tend to be cheaper and more relaxing because they are not overcrowded with tourists.
Travelers are seeking “authentic” experiences. According to Booking.com’s “2025 Travel Predictions,” more than two-thirds of adults surveyed said they want to visit less crowded destinations.
Another travel trend is embracing JOMO, the joy of missing out. Expedia defines JOMO Travel as “leaving the hustle bustle of everyday life and escaping to a private vacation rental to relax, disconnect, and protect your peace.”
