A vacation isn’t relaxing if you are battling crowds everywhere you go. Not to mention, the prices are always higher in popular places. TimeOut doesn’t believe that should stop you from traveling. It’s sharing five places right here in the U.S. that made AFAR magazine’s list of the 25 most exciting, lesser-visited destinations that you should visit in 2025.
Here are the picks for the most underrated destinations in America:
Bold Coast, Maine – Experience the beauty of nature as you drive along this national scenic byway. The 125-mile coastal route takes you past wild blueberry farms, seaside cliffs, picturesque lighthouses, and charming fishing hamlets teeming with lobster boats.
Boone, North Carolina – Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Boone is an outdoor lovers’ paradise. It offers nature, hiking, rafting, fishing, and much more. Although the charming town sustained some damage from Hurricane Helene, the “Heart of High Country” has recovered and is welcoming visitors.
Columbus, Ohio – This fast-growing metro area is rich in history and culture and offers a robust food scene. The capital of Ohio is home to more than 175 National Register of Historic Places sites including an authentic German Village district, which is now home to a bustling brewery scene.
Lititz, Pennsylvania – This Lancaster County gem is home to America’s oldest Amish settlement and oldest continuously operated farmers’ market. Visitors enjoy rustic farm stays, buggy rides, and quilt shopping. Sampling a treat from the town’s pretzel bakery is another must-do when in Lititz.
