Unsure of where to go for your next vacation? Maybe you want to consider one of the 25 “Best of the World Destinations 2026” as named by National Geographic.
A U.S.A. Today article explains that each year the travel publication asks its community of writers, photographers, editors, and videographers to submit the global destinations they think are best to visit in the upcoming year. Three of its top 25 travel hotspots happen to be here in the United States. They are Maui, Hawaii, Route 66 in Oklahoma, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and the North Dakota Badlands.
Some of the global destinations making the list include Akagera National Park in Rwanda (East Africa), the Black Sea Coast in Turkey, the Yamagata Prefecture in Japan, and the Caribbean island of Dominica, which is expected to become the world’s first sperm whale reserve next year.
In making its selections for 2026, Nat Geo’s editor-in-chief says they wanted to “make sure that we get that global perspective in there, and that we’re choosing places that feel right for a wide variety of people, not just in terms of, you know, interests and how adventurous or spendy they are, but also just where they’re coming from as well.”
As a bonus, this year’s list includes a companion guide with advice on how travelers can make any of these trips a reality.
