While the days of steam-powered trains traversing the country are long gone, train travel is seeing a resurgence with many vacationers eagerly climbing aboard.
According to KUTA 2 in Portland, Oregon, nearly a million passengers rode the rails over the past two years. That number will surely increase when Amtrak introduces its new Airo class fleet, set to take over the Cascades route later this year. They will transport passengers in style through the Pacific Northwest with stops in Seattle, Portland and other stations along the I-5 corridor, extending up to Vancouver, British Columbia.
This promises to be the next generation of train travel. Amtrak says its new trains will revolutionize the Amtrak Cascades experience with a focus on comfort and efficiency. Amenities include panoramic windows to better view the scenic landscapes, ergonomically designed seating, redesigned café car featuring local Northwest foods and beverages, technology upgrades with individual outlets and USB ports, and free onboard WiFi.
Additionally, the new trains are more fuel-efficient and produce significantly less air pollution.
