Smart cruisers and travelers in general understand the value of investing in travel insurance. It can cover certain medical emergencies and other unforeseen expenses that can pop up on your cruise. But according to an article by USA Today, trip insurance does not cover everything.
Here are six situations that are probably not covered by your travel insurance:
- Sports-related onshore activities – Most basic travel insurance plans don’t cover any medical bills if you get hurt jet skiing, zip lining, or other types of activities.
- Missing the ship – Ships are serious about their all-aboard time. If you are running late in port, the ship could set sail without you, and you will be responsible for the expenses of meeting the ship at the next port.
- Bringing expensive belongings – Many trip insurance plans have maximum limits for how much you’ll be reimbursed for lost or stolen items, so think twice before packing expensive jewelry, electronics, etc.
- Alcohol-related accidents – If you have an accident and need medical attention, and intoxication is found to be a factor, travel insurance won’t cover your treatment.
- Acts of war and civil unrest – Recent political events have disrupted travel by land and sea. It’s important to note that acts of war and civil unrest are typically excluded from basic coverage. If you are going to areas of concern, you will want a cancel for any reason clause.
- Booking with points or rewards – Most plans only reimburse purchases made with cash, card, or bank transfers.
