It’s important to remember that flight attendants are not in-flight servers and bartenders. While they do bring you snacks and beverages, their main job is to ensure the safety of passengers and help deliver a comfortable flying experience. With that said, it’s understandable that they receive a lot of requests during flights. Travel & Leisure spoke to some flight attendants about some of the strangest requests they have received. You may be surprised to learn which ones they were able to fulfill from 30,000 feet.
In one case, while the flight attendant was not able to provide a passenger with the parachute they requested mid-flight ‘in case of emergency’, they were able to comfort the passenger and provide a few freebies to make the flight more comfortable.
Several flight attendants shared they had been asked to cook or prepare food for a passenger. That is not possible because airplane “galleys” are not equipped for full-fledged cooking. Examples of these requests included frying chicken, making sushi and cooking a fish.
The movie “Snakes on a Plane” was nightmare fuel for many frequent fliers, but it was a reality on one flight. The flight attendant shared that a passenger asked to bring their pet snake in an aquarium on board. After consulting with the captain, and relocating a few other passengers, they were able to accommodate this strange request.
