Today’s seniors aren’t slowing down. For many, this means traveling more. But the older you get, the more taxing travel can become. Fortunately, AOL has gathered some tips from travel experts on ways that senior travelers can save money and alleviate stress. Their suggestions include:
With your kids grown and flown, you can travel whenever you want. Vacation costs tend to increase during traditional school break times. To save money and avoid crowds, plan your trips while school is in session.
Be sure to pack your prescriptions. It’s wise to take a few extra days’ medication just in case you experience travel delays or cancellations. Also, think about any over-the-counter medicines you might need while away. Finding a pharmacy is not always easy.
Invest in travel insurance. A basic policy can protect you from a “range of issues that may come up on your trip — cancellations, medical emergencies, delays, and lost baggage, to name a few.”
Take advantage of travel rewards programs. If you frequent certain brands, you can earn points towards free flights and hotel stays. Additionally, by using some credit cards, you can earn credit towards discounted or free travel.
Lastly, bring back-ups. We’re not talking about packing an extra pair of underwear (although that is always a good idea). Smart travelers will take pictures of their passport info and credit cards, just in case they get lost or stolen.
