Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the travel experts at Go2Africa analyzed reviews by couples to compile a list of the world’s most romantic landmarks. According to their findings, the Matterhorn in Switzerland is the number one place for romance. Rounding out the top five are Salar de Uyuni (the world’s largest salt flat) in Bolivia, Sydney Harbour in Australia, Les 7 Cascades (waterfalls) in Mauritius, and the Great Wall of China.

According to Time Out, only one U.S. destination made the list of The Top 20 Most Romantic Landmarks in the World, with the Grand Canyon coming in at number seven. It also earned the title of the most romantic place in America. The article states, “Couples rave about the scale, the colors and the quiet moments, calling it ‘truly breathtaking’ and saying they ‘can’t imagine a more romantic location.’”

Go2Africa named the most romantic landmark in each state, ranging from charming historic streets, vibrant cityscapes, and breathtaking feats of nature. If you are seeking a special moment with your sweetheart, consider visiting the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area in Oregon, the Golden Gate Bridge in California, Monticello in Virginia, the Marginal Way in Maine, or Central Park in New York.
