Many people have a list of travel destinations they would love to visit. It’s a wish list for many because of the cost or how hard it may be to get there. A recent article by Yahoo! Finance, says if any of these three destinations are on your bucket list, you might want to consider going sooner than later.
Antarctica – Visiting all seven continents is a dream for many travel lovers. But crossing Antarctica off your bucket list can be a challenge. It is one of the most difficult and expensive places on earth to visit. Additionally, climate change is melting the ice field, changing the landscape, and endangering wildlife.
Venice – Climate change is also impacting travel to Venice, one of the world’s most iconic cities. The article explains that Venice is “built on a shallow lagoon in the Adriatic Sea, settling lagoon sediments and human activities are causing the city to sink.” Overtourism has plagued the city, making prices for hotels and restaurants skyrocket. To help combat over-tourism, Reuters reports that Venice has implemented a payment system for tourists wanting to visit the city and limits the size of tour groups.
Maldives – Beautiful overwater bungalows beckon tourists to these tropical islands but getting there is quite difficult and expensive. There are no budget resorts and visitors must pay the set costs for food, tours, and activities. Only One reports that climate change is having a devastating effect. It’s estimated that 80 precent of the island nation could become uninhabitable by 2050 because of rising sea levels. Additionally, ocean warming is leading to coral bleaching, adversely affecting biodiversity.
