If you’ve always wanted to experience something new, this is the perfect season. According to a report by Travel & Leisure, U.S. travelers are seeking “under-the-radar destinations” for their winter vacations. It released the results of Airbnb’s 2025/2026 winter travel report, which revealed that Americans “aren’t sticking to old-standby spots this year.”

Travelers wanting to embrace the winter weather are opting for smaller ski towns such as Brighton, Utah, outside of Park City, and Dover, Vermont, and Campton, New Hampshire, in New England. These lesser-known winter wonderlands offer plenty of charm without the crowds and high costs.

There are plenty of warm-weather options available as well, should you prefer bathing suits to ski jackets. Florida’s Anna Maria Island, nestled between Tampa and Sarasota, offers “lowkey energy and pristine beaches.” If you’re looking for a seaside spot on the West Coast, consider Hermosa Beach in Southern California, which offers a vibrant surf culture.

Travelers seeking culture and cuisine may want to consider Lafayette, Louisiana, known for its acclaimed Cajun food, festive cultural celebrations, and a lively music scene.

Interestingly, the Airbnb study found that more than one-third of seniors traveling this winter will be visiting Southern states, especially Florida. The top ten trending destinations are all in the Sunshine State, including The Villages, Fort Myers Beach, and Venice.

Nearly half of travelers over the age of 60 said they are traveling with their partners, and nearly a quarter noted they prefer beach houses and condos to hotels.
