Solo travel is becoming more popular. In fact, the solo travel market is expected to experience the largest growth in the global leisure travel market between now and 2030. And, according to Travel & Leisure, September is the biggest month for solo travel in the U.S.

The magazine also looked into where people are going and found that our nation’s capital takes the top spot of best destinations for solo travelers. That’s not surprising when you consider all that Washington, D.C., has to offer such as rich history, highly walkable, excellent metro system, free museums and monuments, and a renowned food scene.

A study by OpenTable and Kayak found that solo travel is on the rise, noting a 38 percent increase in individual room bookings and an 8 percent increase in solo dining reservations. After looking at rankings for safety, cultural attractions, affordability, and more, the travel and dining experts came up with a list of the top cities for “all-by-yourself adventures.”

Washington topped the list with a 100 percent solo score, followed by Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, Salt Lake City, Tampa, Philadelphia, Seattle, Los Angeles, and New York.

If you prefer overseas travel, the best cities for solo travelers are Berlin, Vancouver, Montreal, Paris, Milan, Dublin, Toronto, Dubai, Mexico City, and London.
