If you’ve never experienced a U.S. National Park, you don’t know what you’re missing. According to Travel & Leisure, they offer some of the country’s most beautiful protected lands. And one of the best times to visit is right now. Fall is a magical time to explore these natural wonders and all their beauty as the leaves begin to change color.

The article listed the “15 Best National Parks to Visit This Fall for Stunning Foliage and Fewer Crowds” and here are a few you won’t want to miss, especially if you enjoy leaf peeping and wildlife viewing.

With 16 mountain peaks higher than 6,000 feet in elevation, Great Smoky Mountains National Park offers an extended peak foliage season as the leaves change first at higher elevations and slowly progress down the slope providing visitors with majestic vistas to enjoy throughout the fall season.

Fall is a great time to visit Yosemite National Park. While most of the trees are evergreen, fall foliage is at its peak in October along the Valley Loop Trail where the bigleaf maples turn yellow and the dogwoods display deep red and purple hues.

There’s a reason New England is known as a fall foliage destination. Maine’s Acadia National Park is hands down one of the best national parks for leaf peeping. For the best views of the changing leaves, the article recommends you drive up Cadillac Mountain, hike the Beehive Loop Trail, or tour Frenchman Bay by boat.

If you want to see the changing of the leaves at their most vibrant colors, you might want to consult a fall foliage color map.
