For many new retirees, the first order of business is to travel. And the best place to start is a trip to Italy. A recent Travel & Leisure article shared findings from Travelsphere, an expert-led tour company, which named Italy the go-to spot for the newly retired. In fact, 65 percent of the company’s Italian bookings come from the newly retired.

One of the reasons Italy landed in the top spot because of its accessibility. Not only is it easy to get flights there, but traveling around the country is simple with affordable train travel and internal flights.

And you can’t forget the delicious cuisine and rich history that put visiting Italy on the top of so many bucket lists.

Rounding out the list of the top 10 vacation destinations for new retirees is the United States, Canada, India, Spain, Croatia, Turkey, Vietnam and Cambodia (tied), Australia and China.

Keep in mind, Travelsphere is based in the United Kingdom, but chances are there are parts of the U.S. you’ve never visited so why not start your post-retirement closer to home.
