It’s been about 20 years since airports started forbidding passengers from bringing full-size bottles of shampoo, soda and other products onboard airline carry-ons. That may soon be changing.

Travel & Leisure reports that Heathrow Airport outside of London has “ended the rule requiring travelers to remove toiletries and electronics from their luggage while going through security.”

The move is thanks to new next-generation CT security scanners. According to a news release from Heathrow, the state-of-the-art security scanning machines are “capable of servicing thousands of passengers an hour with significantly greater efficiency, while maintaining high safety and security standards.”

Heathrow is the largest airport in the world to fully roll out the new technology. There is no word yet on any airports here in the United States will adopt it anytime soon, but travelers can certainly hope.

The change promises to save time and potentially the planet. Allowing passengers to leave liquids and laptops in their bags, the security process will speed up, and the airport is helping reduce the use of millions of single-use plastic bags.
