There’s an expression that “travel isn’t a cost, it’s an investment.” That rings true for many vacationers. An article by USA Today cited a Squaremouth survey that found that 45 percent of travelers polled said they are increasing their travel budgets this year.

And 23 percent of respondents said they plan on spending more for a premium or bucket-list travel experience.

But where exactly are they going?

The study found the 10 most expensive destinations people are traveling to this year based on the highest average costs across the five categories: daily trip cost, airfare, accommodations, car rental, and everyday food and drink prices. They are Greenland, British Virgin Islands, French Polynesia, Antarctica, Maldives, Switzerland, Zimbabwe, Turks and Caicos, Botswana, and Anguilla.

One big takeaway from the study is that travelers are willing to pay more for luxurious experiences and once-in-a-lifetime adventure trips.
