When it comes to travel planning, Google is often the first step for most people. Travel searches account for just a fraction of the 8.5 million searches Google processes each day. Curious about what destinations people are searching the most, Afar.com used Google’s Destinations Insights tool to see which cities, regions, and countries are generating the most interest.
It discovered that in 2023 the top-searched cities on Google were: Las Vegas; New York; Chicago; Los Angeles; Orlando; Cancún, Mexico; Nashville; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; San Diego; and New Orleans.
When they filtered out domestic locations, the most searched for international cities by U.S.-based travelers were: Cancún, Mexico; London, England; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; Paris, France; Rome, Italy; Tokyo, Japan; Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; Dubai, UAE; Barcelona, Spain; and Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
Lastly, Afar.com discovered that the most-searched-for countries in 2023 were: Mexico; Dominican Republic; United Kingdom; Canada; Italy; France; Japan; Spain; India; and Thailand.
