Planning where to go and what to do on your next vacation just got easier.
The travel experts at Lonely Planet, a 53-year-old guidebook company, just released their Best in Travel 2027 list, featuring 50 destinations and experiences – and seven of them are here in the United States.
California’s Coastal Redwoods, Maryland, and New Mexico were also chosen as top places to visit, while serving as a temporary keeper at Rhode Island’s Rose Island Lighthouse, flightseeing over Alaska, hotel-hopping in Miami’s South Beach, and driving Minnesota’s Slow Road were selected as the best experiences.
A reporter from Time Out took the time out to explain why these specific experiences are worth experiencing. She noted, “Travelers can spend a week as the keeper of Rose Island Lighthouse in Newport Harbor, trading a hotel check-in for chores and solitude along the water. In Alaska, aerial sightseeing promises a much faster route to glaciers and remote wilderness. Miami’s entry encourages travelers to bounce among South Beach hotels, while Minnesota’s Slow Road offers a more leisurely drive through the state’s northwestern reaches.”
As for Lonely Planet’s places to visit list, it’s easy to understand why California’s giant coastal redwoods and New Mexico’s high-desert landscapes and impressive art scene were picked. But Time Out calls Maryland the list’s dark horse, noting that “its Chesapeake Bay towns, Atlantic beaches and excellent excuse to consume your body weight in crab” make it worth a visit.
