While the New England states are popular for prime leaf peeping, you don’t have to go to Vermont or New Hampshire to enjoy stunning fall foliage. According to an article by Southern Living, brilliant colors will be on display throughout the South once autumn arrives.
Here are four spots you don’t want to miss:
Asheville, North Carolina – The Blue Ridge Parkway is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. Starting in late September, it will be ablaze with color from the tops of mountains down to the foothills.
Franklin, Tennessee – Outside of Nashville, this charming small town features rolling hills with leaves that turn from deep green to golden yellow, vibrant orange, and striking red. One of the best ways to take in the colors is a leisurely drive on the Natchez Trace Parkway.
Whitwell, Tennessee – The Tennessee Valley, stretching along the Tennessee River near Chattanooga, is breathtaking to behold.
Lake Oconee, Georgia – The fall colors are especially lovely when you see them reflect off this majestic lake outside of Atlanta.
September through November is the best time to enjoy fall colors throughout the South.
