There’s no mistaking it – travel has become increasingly stressful these days. While you might not be able to control flight delays and cancellations, you can help alleviate some of the stress by avoiding certain airports.
Travel & Leisure just revealed the country’s eleven most stressful airports, citing the results of a study by Mozio, which looked at flight delay performance, airport parking costs, and the distance from the city center.
Frequent travelers will not be surprised to learn that Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) was named the most stressful airport in America. Only 75 percent of flights at the nation’s third busiest airport depart within 15 minutes of their scheduled time. Additionally, parking is pricy ($43 per day), and it’s about an hour from downtown Chicago, making it one of the longest commutes on the list.
The three airports serving the New York City area took the next three spots on the list. This is largely due to parking costs – $80 per day at LaGuardia Airport – and commute time.
In case you’re wondering if your “home” airport is on the list, these are the country’s 10 most stressful airports:
This is the full list of the most stressful airports in the U.S., according to Mozio.

- Tie: John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)

And, in case you’re wondering, of the nation’s 20 busiest airports, the least stressful is Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP), followed by Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO).
