We are living in tumultuous times – wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, modern piracy, the climate crisis… the list goes on. Despite these situations, people are still traveling abroad. But when it comes to planning your next vacation, you might want to consider your personal safety in addition to the region’s attractions and available accommodations.

To help you plan a trip out of harms way, a recent report by Forbes revealed a list of the safest places to visit in 2024 as determined by International SOS, a medical and travel security risk services company.

Its interactive Risk Map 2024 allows users to see the security risks, as well as climate change risks, medical risks, and mental health risks of regions around the world. Simply type in the name of a city you are thinking of visiting and the map will show you the risk level, from low to very high, for each of the four categories.

If safety is your priority, then you might want to consider a trip to Scandinavia. According to International SOS, the safest country to visit is Iceland, followed by Luxembourg, Norway, Switzerland, and Denmark. These countries are top-rated because of low rates of violent crime, a lack of political violence, and low levels of violence against foreigners.

The most dangerous countries to visit, according to International SOS, are South Sudan, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, and Somalia.
